Steel rebars are available in various diameters such as 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm, 25mm. In this article, I am going to show you a simple method to calculate the weight of a steel rebar from its length with some examples. End of the article contains the list of commercial available steel bars and its weight.
The calculations given below are valid for all steel rods such as TMT, CMT, mild steel, etc..,
Case 1
If the length of the rebar is in meter and the diameter of rebar is in mm, the weight of the steel rebar W = (D2/162) * L
i.e., Weight of steel reinforcement= (Diameter square/162) * Length
Case 2
If the length of the rebar is in feet and the diameter is in mm, the weight of steel reinforcement W = (D2/533) * L
Examples
Let’s find the weight of TMT steel rod of length 1 meter @ 8mm dia
Weight of 1 meter @ 8mm steel rod = (82/162) * 1 = 0.395 kg
Weight of 12 meter @ 8mm steel bar = (82/162) * 12 = 4.74 kg
Weight of 40 feet @ 8mm steel bar = (82/533) * 12 = 4.80 kg
Weight of 1 meter @ 10mm steel rod = (102/162) * 1 = 0.617 kg
Weight of 12 meter @ 10mm steel bar = (82/162) * 12 = 7.407 kg
WEIGHT OF STEEL REBAR FROM LENGTH
Mostly, Steel rebars like TMT are supplied in the length of 12 meters or in 40 feet.
DIAMTER | WEIGHT PER METER | WEIGHT OF 12 METER STEEL REBAR |
8mm | 0.395 kg | 4.740 kg |
10mm | 0.617 kg | 7.407 kg |
12mm | 0.889 kg | 10.667 kg |
16mm | 1.580 kg | 18.962 kg |
20mm | 2.469 kg | 29.630 kg |
25mm | 3.858 kg | 46.296 kg |
32mm | 6.321 kg | 75.852 kg |
